Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association Takes Website to New Heights

Companies and associations in the forestry sector are taking advantage of new, user-friendly website technology that makes it easier to maintain a more timely online presence. One such association is the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association (GLTPA) that just launched a website re-design in April 2011.

“Our original goal for the new website was to have our staff be able to update information on the logging congress and other association business. We understand we have entered a new information age which travels at the speed of light,” says Henry Schienebeck, Executive Director of the GLTPA.

“I can tell you that the GLTPA is blessed to have such a great staff to help move our association into the information age. The GLTPA and its 26 board members are buying into, and excited about, the opportunities the new website offers. Although there are several benefits to the new website, perhaps the main one is being able to have a larger viewership to read our message that forestry is good for everyone.”

The association’s new website is just one part of a streamlined approach the GLTPA is taking to provide its members – the majority of which are loggers and log truckers – with the latest news and highlights as it pertains to them and the public. The association also welcomes new members such as landowners, equipment manufacturers, professional foresters, sawmill operators, chip board plants, paper mill operators, sportsmen, and members of the general public who support forestry.

The GLTPA was formed in 2007 and is the amalgamation of Michigan/Wisconsin Timber Producers Association (TPA), The Wisconsin Professional Loggers Association, and the Forest Industry Safety & Training Association (FISTA). The roots of the GLTPA go back nearly 73 years. The original TPA was formed to help loggers market their wood, says Schienebeck.

“Today’s GLTPA provides networking opportunities for issues pertinent to the forestry industry. We work on any and all issues dealing with environmental regulation, timber supply (local, state, federal), transportation (local, state and federal), training, land use, and, believe it or not – deer herd issues.”

“We are politically active and have a lobbyist in both Lansing, MI, and Madison, WI,” says Schienebeck. “The forestry industry as a whole benefits from our organization the same way the members have with the GLTPA. The fact of the matter is, when an issue gets resolved, member or not, there is no discrimination towards non-members who receive the benefit at no expense.”
