Reduce Injury and Lost Work Time for Truckers
For years there has been an ongoing dispute over which method of transporting goods is best for North America. While there will always be contention between trucking associations and railway coalitions in claiming which is safest for operators and shared road users, trucks and trains typically serve different functions, and therefore, both remain essential to North American trades.
The trucking industry is ideal for shipping single-load, time-sensitive goods that need to be transported less than 500 km. With that in mind, trucks remain an essential method of shipping industrial goods. Fortunately, providing that the correct standards are adhered to, safety risks associated with heavy loads can be drastically reduced.
For example, utilizing the proper tie-downs to secure loads on trucks can significantly reduce safety risks to shared road users when accidents happen. Quick Winch tie-downs are engineered for safer use by the operator, thereby reducing the risk of injuries and lost work time.
Quick Winch products are engineered for safer use by the operator, thereby reducing the risk of injuries and lost work time. The Quick Winch securement system is the first new advancement in strap and winch securement in years. The Portable Drive is inserted into the drive side of most standard winches and is secured in place by the insert pin that fits through a drive hole in the winch and can easily and quickly be moved from winch to winch when securing a load. Once this simple adapter is secured, the standard winch is now ready for use with the Quick Winch 3/4” Mega Tork Ratchet / Winch Bar.
Research conducted on Quick Winch products by the University of Wisconsin-Stout reports that the system is safer, quicker, and easier for the driver.
“Ease of operation, occupational hazards and ergonomic risk factors were used as criteria to determine operator safety. Since the square drive of the ratchet must be moved sideways to remove it from the winch, there is a much smaller chance of it accidentally disengaging from the winch when compared to the standard winch bar,” says Ellen Zimmer, Safety/Ergonomic Specialist, and Dr. Glenn Gehring, Director at the Center for Innovation and Development, both of whom carried out the study.
“Operators state that the Mega Tork feels more secure than a standard winch bar. When the Mega Tork is used as a winch bar, the straight sides improve stability and the solid steel handle virtually eliminates any chance of the ‘bar’ breaking during use.”
Education is key when it comes to reducing the risks of big trucks on the road. If used properly and in adequate amounts, Quick Winch products help truckers keep loads secure.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Agency’s general rule in determining the number of tie-downs required for each is as follows: The aggregated working load limit of all tie-downs used to secure an article must at least be equal to one-half times the weight of the article.
