Tackling Air Emissions at Pellet Production Facilities
May 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. CDT
As more large-scale pellet production facilities are coming online, logging more operational hours, important discoveries are being made about plant emissions. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are expected from the dryers at facilities, but testing has shown VOCs are also emitted during pelletizing operations. Under the Clean Air Act, the U.S. EPA has set threshold limits for VOCs and other pollutants. Pellet producers need to know those thresholds, design and operational considerations to avoid additional permitting requirements when possible, and, when not avoidable, the best available control technology.
