Inland West Loggers Look at Central Dispatch
The May Idaho Logger reports that, following the examination of successful central truck dispatching systems in the Pacific Northwest, the U.S. South, New Zealand, and Finland, “a collaboration of forest owners in Idaho have commissioned Inland Timber Logistics (ITL), an independent consortium . . . to establish and evaluate a start-up scale central dispatch service [incorporating] a cross-section of the participating companies, mills, and contract harvesting locations” in northern Idaho.
“ITL’s primary focus will be on: maximizing the loaded running miles of all participating trucking contractors month-to-month; increasing the number of loads delivered per day for participating program trucking contractors as compared to the recent benchmarking studies; minimizing required in-woods inventory; meeting logging contractors’ weekly log stocks uplift requirements; providing online real-time production and delivery information to all stakeholders, and training all contractors and company staff in the use of the online information systems and in-truck remote data recorders.”
